I love improv comedy. A lot of the fun comes from the surprise of discovery since the actors don't know where the story is going to go - they just have to be ready to respond to what happens. Here's a video of a performance by CPR Improv, a group that I've seen a couple of times: ![]() Each of our lives are a collection of stories - and each of those stories take unexpected turns as we interact with other people and make difference choices. Some of our stories are fun to recall and share... and others we would prefer to leave untold (unless we can edit some significant details). But lets look ahead 5 years into the future: what story would you like to be able to tell about your life? What story do you think God would want you to be able to tell? What actions can you take in order to enable that story to be told? Our sermon series for the coming 5 weeks is titled "My Story" and it's all about taking action to set the trajectory of our stories. We'll start this Sunday with the phrase, "I decided to start..." I hope you'll be able to join us and together, with God as our author, we can create some stories worth telling. Check out this reporter doing her best to make a compelling story for the Eyewitness News. I think we can all relate to being in a situation in which we try to "spin" the story in order make ourselves look better or get out of a jam. And you've probably been caught in your "embellishment" - although hopefully not broadcast on the news or memorialized on YouTube! No matter how much we try to be the perfect person, the perfect employee, the perfect athlete, or the perfect friend, we always fail. They may be tiny missteps or gigantic gaffes, but we all come up short. That's where the Easter story enters our messed-up lives and brings the Good News - we don't have to be perfect. In fact, it was never an option for us (no matter what you've been told or told yourself). I hope you'll be able to take part in our Holy Week prayer experience, "Journey to the Cross", that is being offered at CCC this week. Each evening between 7-9:00 pm, Monday through Friday, the sanctuary is open for your reflective journey through the last week of Jesus' life leading up to his crucifixion. The 12 stations guide your thoughts and prayers and even offer hands-on actions to help you to enter in more fully. Please plan on setting aside at least 30 minutes so that you don't feel rushed. Easter Sunday Celebration! Our Sunrise Service will be held at 7:00 am in the Twisp Commons park right next to the Community Center. This short service will feature singing, scripture reading, and a challenging meditation as we join with the women who discovered Jesus' empty tomb and were the first messengers of the Good News that Jesus is alive. Pastor Jeff and Tim Boonstra will be leading this community service. (From 7:30-9:30 the United Methodist church invites you to breakfast at their church. Donations will help fun an upcoming youth ministry trip.)
Our Easter Worship Celebration will take place at our usual time of 10:00 am at CCC and will feature some special music, a message of hope, and a memorable visual depicting Jesus' new life he offers to all. We hope to see you there! You've probably seen one of the Dos Equis commercials featuring "the most interesting man in the world". Among the claims about this mysterious character:
Thirst is an indication that something is lacking. Physical thirst indicates that your body is lacking the water it needs to function. Other metaphorical thirsts point out that there's an emptiness that is longing to be filled. One of the things that Jesus is recorded saying while he hung on the cross is, "I am thirsty". That seems like a throw-away comment and it's surprising that the disciple John felt it was important to record in his gospel. However, I believe that there's significance in this statement of Jesus. We're going to take a look at it this Sunday, April 6th. I hope you'll be able to join us. Church Workday - featuring Donuts!Saturday, April 12th, is the day of CCC's spring clean-up. Join us beginning at 9:00 AM and pitch in to get the building and grounds in good condition after a long winter. There's something that you can contribute no matter what your ability - many hands make for light work!
And, yes, there will be donuts! |
