This Sunday, June 22nd, Don Wallis will be bringing us the message based on the John 8 account of the woman caught in adultery being brought to Jesus. This familiar story is full of implications for our lives and relationships with God and others. I hope you'll be able to join us. We'll also get the chance to hear from Ellie Palmberg and Lily Darwood as they share about the Discipleship Training School (DTS) experience through Youth With a Mission (YWAM). Ellie went on DTS this past year and will be joining the YWAM staff while Lily is just getting set to go on her own DTS. On Sunday evening at 7:00 pm there will be a Dessert Potluck at the church at which Ellie will share pictures and stories from her DTS experience. Lily could still use some financial assistance. Please consider helping Lily to participate in this life-changing 6 months of learning, growth, and service. More information will be available at both our morning worship service and the evening program. Register you child for Vacation Bible School and sign up to volunteer! There are lots of places for you to assist in making this year's VBS great. Please consider being a part of the team. Sign up at the display in the Fellowship Hall or contact Mandy Schmekel. Many of you heard about my mountain biking accident a couple weeks back when Mike Putnam and I went out to enjoy the local trails, but until now I haven't shared video evidence of my biking prowess. Check out the video link below to see a first-person view of a recent ride. In case you haven't figured it out, this is NOT a video of me. If I ever was to ride like this on a trail like this, you would be holding my funeral and Mike Putnam would be chairing the search committee for your next pastor! I cannot pass myself off as a skilled mountain biker (and I've never even been to Peru, where this was filmed). But most of us go to the effort of creating an identity for others. Some choose a certain style of clothing, others wear their hair in a particular style, another person will choose to drive a type of vehicle - all in the desire to associate ourselves with a particular image. Some of it is as phony as my video claim to being a mountain biker. There are others who try to avoid associations in the same way. They'll avoid certain clothing or things that will lump them together with a group. Maybe it's shame of being associated with the group or fear of how others will respond if they knew the truth. This Sunday, June 8th, we will be talking about identity and the choice to proudly proclaim faith in Jesus through the act of baptism. A number of people will be baptized at the conclusion of our worship celebration - and that will truly be a celebration! In fact, there is still time to be included in the baptisms this Sunday - just email me ([email protected]) or call me (Cell: 206-650-1557 Home: 509-997-0305). It will be a wonderful time - I hope you'll be able to join us. Family Dinner & A Movie!
Saturday, June 7th 4-7:30 pm Everyone is invited to a delightful spaghetti dinner, Disney movie and fun discussion. Consider inviting a neighbor family and join us even if you don't have young children. This is a wonderful chance to interact with the children in our congregation and build relationships across the generations. Contact Mandy Schmekel for more information. |
