Being known as a "wise guy" is usually not a compliment. The term has little to do with actual wisdom. And if you're name is Larry, Moe, or Curly, it probably means you'll soon get konked on the head! The bible has a lot to say about actual wisdom. The key component to being wise is all about acting in a wise way. King Solomon wrote 3000 proverbs and was known as the wisest man who ever lived. But he failed to act in a wise way and turned his back on God as he grew older. This Sunday, March 24th, we'll be talking about real wisdom and how to live it out in our lives. I hope you'll be able to join us. (Remember that our new Sunday schedule begins at 9:45 with Sunday School for all ages followed by our Worship Celebration starting at 10:30) Congregational Meeting this SundayFollowing our Worship Celebration, we will have a special meeting for church members to address our river bank erosion problem. Please plan on staying and voting on this funding issue. You can read more about the circumstances and what we will be voting on by reading this letter from the Church Council. Mission Trip Fund RaiserOn April 28th to May 4th, a group of men from our congregation will be traveling down to Rosarito, Mexico with Paul Eklund. During the week, they will be working on an addition to a Christian orphanage which is seeking to expand so that they can take in 40 additional children. There are currently hundreds of abandoned children in the Tijuana area who are desperate. While this expansion will not fix the problem, it will make a difference for the children who will now have a living home.
On Sunday evening, April 14th, beginning at 5:00 pm, we will host a fund raising dinner for this mission trip. Although the men going will be paying for their own trip, there is a need to raise money for the needed building supplies. The estimated need is $7000. Please plan on joining us for a delicious Mexican meal as well as a presentation about the orphanage and the project. While we're not asking for a set amount in the form of tickets, we are asking that you prayerfully come with a generous heart. Thank you in advance for your participation in this mission through your prayers and financial gifts! Starting this Sunday, March 17th, we'll be switching to a new Sunday morning schedule. It will look like this: 9:45 A.M. Sunday School for all ages 10:30 A.M. Worship Celebration 11:45 A.M. Fellowship Time We've decided to experiment with creating a dedicated time for Sunday School instead of what we've been doing in our recent history - holding the children's classes during the worship service. We're hoping to be able to use this time prior to Worship in order to offer encouragement and some teaching for parents and other adults. This will also help in recruiting teachers for the children's classes (since teachers will not have to give up attending worship). Thank you for your patience and encouragement as we try out this new arrangement for the rest of the school year and see if this is something we want to continue. Come and join us at 9:45 or take a more leisurely start to your Sunday and arrive for the 10:30 Worship Celebration. Congregational Meeting - Sunday, March 24thAll members are invited to attend a special meeting following Worship on March 24th to discuss funding for engineering plans to address the river bank erosion. A special email was sent to members detailing the issue and hard copies are available at the church. We hope to see you there.
I just wanted to get out a couple quick reminders: Spring Forward Tonight! That's right - tonight the clocks get moved ahead one hour. That means you'll be in danger of arriving at church in the middle of the sermon if you've forgotten. On the plus side, we'll have more evening daylight! Sunday, March 17th, Begins our New Morning Schedule!Next week we will be beginning our grand experiment of adding a dedicated Sunday School time prior to our Worship Celebration. That means we're inviting everyone to arrive by 9:45 in order to take part in a half-hour long Christian Formation/Education class and then come together for Worship at 10:30. So our Sunday morning schedule will look like this:
9:45 - 10:15 Sunday School classes for all ages 10:30-11:40 Worship Celebration 11:45-12:30 Fellowship Time You can read more about this by clicking here. We realize that a change to the schedule will be a challenge for some and may take a while to adjust to. We've tried to make the time change as slight as possible and we will be tweaking and evaluating things during this Spring. Thank you for your patience, prayers, and encouragement as we move forward together in mission. |
